According to Duke News, there were 42 courses that required an iPod in the year 2006. I am sure by now, many additional courses have been added to the Duke Digital Initiative (DDI). There is so much today that deals with technology that I agree it should be used more in our classes. Someone in America cannot go throughout one day without the use of some sort of technology. Every single job requires some knowledge dealing with technology, so everyone should definitely be more informed about it.
In doing more research on iPods being used in classes for instruction, I stumbled across a website dealing with iPod use at Edith Cowan University, Using iPods in Learning & Teaching. They listed a number of "ways for educators to use iPods in Teaching and Learning." Here are a few: Recording Economic Lectures, Reviewing with iPods, Text and audio, Storage of information, Developing new engineering software, Dictating lesson plans and research notes, and the list goes on! I like the way you incorporate it in our class even though it was just for a presentation.

Week 8 Duke Gives IPods to Freshmen
I just read an article explaining Duke University's new plan to give all of their incoming Freshmen a free iPod. However, their motives and plans to use the iPods are quite interesting. Duke plans to give all 1,650 incoming Freshmen an iPod downloaded with event calendars, orientation information and even school related music. They are doing an experiment this year to see if it is worth it to bring iPods to an academic use instead of just another thing to use for personal entertainment.
Many of the classes are going to be enhanced with things the students can download onto their iPods to help them with the class. They can record class lectures to be able to play them back for study. For foreign language classes they can access recorded versions of the novels they have to read so they can hear the novels in the proper way. The problem, of course, comes in with students who might not know how to use such technology. Below is the link to the article i found on the subject.

Week 7 The Fischbowl:Why Wireless? November
Wireless access to the Internet is a force multiplier; it allows students to leverage the knowledge of folks all over the world. Students need not only to be able to present information to their classmates, but to share their work with the much wider – and often more authentic – audience that the Internet provides. Our students must know what to do when they don’t know what to do. They will need to know how to learn how to learn. By offering wireless access, we are allowing them to practice “just in time” learning, whether they are in the classroom, the library or the cafeteria.
Week 6 Karl Fisch
I read the September 2007 Bog by Karl Fisch and was impressed that so many teachers are so technologically illiterate. I have always been told that you’re not a leader unless someone is following. How can one teach effectively and be a leader in today's technologically advanced society if they can not even operate a computer? I realize there are ways around it; however this doesn't mean that it’s what is best.
. My opinion is that if you choose to go into the teaching field it is an ever learning career. As teachers, we should want to advance in personal knowledge, not only for ourselves but for the future of the generation that is coming up. We are the leaders of tomorrow so its up to use to become efficient with technology today.
